Photovoltaic modules produce DC electric power from the sun light they receive. The modules can be linked together in parallel to increase the current produced by the array, or they can be linked in series (one after the other) to increase the voltage of the array.
In Off-Grid applications, the solar modules are used to charge batteries, so depending on how the system is wired, the output voltage of the module should be close to the battery bank voltage. Hence so called "12 V solar modules" often produce peak power at voltages around 16-18 V, and modules for 24 V battery banks typically have peak power voltages around 30-33 V. For 12 V battery bank applications such as camping/caravan/RV use, we offer the Project range of Polycrystalline solar modules. For 24 V and 48 V battery bank systems (or 12V batteries using an MPPT charger such as the Morningstar TriStar MPPT), we offer the quality SolarWorld, Tindo Solar and Hyundai range of modules (use 2 in series for 48 volt systems). Please note that if you are using SMA inverters and a SMA Sunny Island battery inverter, then we recommend choosing from the SolarWorld, Tindo Solar or Hyundai range.
On-Grid (Feed-In) inverters typically require several hundred volts from the solar array, so it is more cost effective to choose from the "24 V modules" such as the SolarWorld, Tindo Solar or Hyundai brand modules.
